Image of Budha
The deity representing Mercury is Budha. The deity is pictured as sitting on a lion, wearing yellow colored clothes and a yellow rosary, radiant like the kanera flower, holding with three hands a sword, shield and a club, while giving blessings with the fourth.
Spiritual Significance
Budha (Mercury) represents the awakened discriminating intellect, the mental faculty that inquires, gathers knowledge and communicates through words, in speech or writing. This is the commercial, evaluative, 'common sense' intellect.
Astronomical Mercury
Mercury is the smallest of the seven planets visible from Earth. It is also the most fast-moving one. Due to it's proximity to the Sun it's surface is barren and lifeless. From Earth's perspective Mercury can never be more than 28 degrees away from the Sun.
